Adventure gear to hire

You can hire snorkelling gear as well. There’s 17 different beaches on GKI all offering something different from calm swims to roaring surf. On the western tip of the island lies a hidden gem that’s worth exploring – Shelving Beach. It’s accessed from Fisherman’s Beach nestled in between rocky outcrops and coral reefs and there’s always something to see amongst the colourful marine life that lives there. Look out for turtles and stingrays on the way. Don't touch though.

Will we get wet? - Yes, you will like get a little wet from paddle splashes. But you'll certainly get wet if you go for a swim or a snorkel on one of our great beaches. Water can also enter the kayak so your seat is likely also to get wet as much as you try to stay dry.

What should we wear? - Appropriate sun protective clothing and a wide brim hat. We recommend something comfortable, and don't forget your bathers if you want to swim.

Are there toilets or change facilities? - We have toilets at the Hideaway to get changed. Definitely go to the toilet before you depart for your tour.

What if I've never kayaked before? - The kayaks are very stable and we have different types to suit all levels, even if you haven't paddled before. Kids can do it very easily, especially when their parents do all the paddling!

What about sharks? - Well it is the ocean, and yes there are sharks. But our waterways are fortunate enough to have a very healthy aquatic ecosystem that nurtures all sorts of species. We'll often see small sharks, but it is rare to see a big one, but you'd be lucky if you have an opportunity to!

Where can we put our personal belongings? - There is a space in our office to leave bags and things behind. Keep in mind that we do not take any responsibility for any lost or stolen items. We do have dry bags for the kayak tours, so you can take your phones and cameras to ensure you get some great photos.

What kind of kayaks will we be paddling? - All our kayaks are easy to use, and we'll give you one that is suited for your build and experience. We have ocean going sea kayaks and sit on tops, both single and double.

Can we bring alcohol? - We don't supply alcohol and we don't recommend having any for the kayak tours.
